Hiyare Workshop

Workshop Conducted by the Research Committee of YZA on Research for Conservation was at Hiyare. A low country tropical rain forest, Hiyare has a large man-made lake within its boundaries. Endemic species recorded at the Hiyare rainforest include the Sri Lankan Green Pigeon, Ceylon Rose, Two-spotted Threadtail, Black Ruby Barb, Sri Lankan Green Pit Viper and the Sri Lanka Purple-faced Leaf Monkey.

Public Relation & Education Day 2014

The Public Relation & Education Day 2014 was held this year on March 13th at the Museum Hall of the National Zoological Gardens. 

Around 500 students from around Colombo participated for the event and the lectures held;
Biodiversity of Sri Lanka by Dr. Nihal Dayawansha
Environmental Law by Mr. Jagath Gunawardana (Attorney at Law)
Reptiles of Sri Lanka by Mr. Mendis Wickramasinghe

The event was commemorated by as the chief guest Mr. Anura de Silva, Director of the National Zoological Gardens, Dehiwala.

Annual field trip to Horton plans

Young Zoologists’ Association for the past 3 years took part in making space for the nature trail at Totupola Kanda. The members cleaned the path and made way to the top. Preparing the Thotupola Kanda nature trail could be named as one of the awareness conservation project that undertaken by the Action Committee on 26-28th of July 2013. 50 members participated in this program and they conduct a removal program of the invasive plant species known as Gorse or katu-gus - Ulex europeus

"Rukada Rajje" Stage Drama

The Stage Drama 'Rulada Rajje' written by D. Kumarage organized in Aid of The Young Zooologists Association was successfully held on the 21st of June at the S.De.S Jayasinghe hall. The famous actor Vijaya Nandasiri played a flawless main role in the drama and the YZA shows are honourable appriciation and thanks to all who took part in the play.

Our heartiest gratitude and thanks goes to everyone who helped us to make this drama a success.
